Here's to hoping that I don't have to purchase this on disc.

Man I asked Martie of Bungie about and ODST Halo game a couple months ago in an interview and Now here they are putting "ODST" in the name.

No! U can't has Recon?

Currently I believe it is going to be a disc based game that will not require a copy of Halo 3 and it will not be for sale as a download on Xbox Live but it is almost a year to go and things like that can change. It’s a new game and technically not an expansion pack.

Technically Microsoft does not sell full download games that are bit by bit exact as full retail physical discs of 360 games. They have Xbox Originals, Xbox Live Arcade, Xbox 360 game content and Community games but not an actual full download 1000 achievement games that are exactly the same as the ones in retail shelves.

It is a marketing or political decision because there is nothing stopping them from doing it technically. It is a bit strange. You can buy a huge downloaded virtual disc image of Ninja Gaiden Black, Fable 1, and Halo 1 on your 360 but you can’t get a copy of  Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2 or Halo 3 via the Xbox Live Network. You have to get a physical copy of the disc and then you can install it on your hard drive (but don’t install Halo 3) but you can’t buy a 100% digitally distributed version of a retail game over Xbox Live.

Good name change. It more accurately reflects what this game is about and will avoid confusion with Recon Armor nonsense.

Though I wish the official name was "Halo 3: Orbital Drop Shock Troopers" since that sounds more bad assery.

Why not call it Halo 3.5?

Just be sure the glare at people that are going to call it "Halo 4" because it is not "Halo 4". That is likely to be a different game. Of course this is made a little weirder that this is going to have Halo 3 in the name and take place between the events of Halo 2 and 3.

Also to make things any more confusing it is going to be made by Bungie who is now seperate from Microsoft but it is going to be published and distributed by Microsoft since MS owns Halo and they are still corporate pals.

However this is seperate from the "Peter Jackson Halo Project or Halo : Chronicles"? What is still going on with that? Is that still happening?

Halo 4 still might get made but not by Bungie but Microsoft who hired Frankie one of the founders of Bungie. Plus we don't know if Halo 4 is going to be on this generation of Xbox hardware.

Plus this game is not to be confused with Halo Wars or the cancled Halo MMORPG.

The naming of Halo games just got a little bit more complex.

How about "Super Turbo Halo Championship Edition 3 EX Plus A"
