Darn it. I can't go to Xbox.com at work and can't enter any codes 5 by 5 until it is too late.

Is there anyway to trick a connected gamer... yes you can set their parrential restrictions on their Xbox 360 to child levels and don't give them the reset code for a day or two.  That would be a pretty evil April Fools day joke. Also change their background picture to a LOL cat.

I got the 5x5 code about 2 hours after the sho was posted and didnt make it in time,, damn some guys are really quick... you have to listen to it (30min) the winner sure didnt lose a lot of time to download the show

ahh man, Im in Australia and just checked time zones... I have to wake up at midnight (if the show is posted at 1pm GMT for example) in order to have a chance of winning a 5x5... :(

Thx for using my question. I'm surprised y'all don't read more books - especially since Nelson is all tight in with Oprah, who has the book club and everything! and John - South Park?!?! Atrocious.

I'll offer up that I did recently enjoy 'Juno' (yeah, late to that bandwagon) and 'The Bank Job'. Just finished reading Wil Wheaton's 'The Happiest Days of Our Lives' - pretty breezy read (good for when you're on the public transit), but fun and enjoyable. Also enjoyed "The New Frontier special" comic from Darwyn Cooke - if you've never read the original miniseries, give it a go. I think the animated film translation (w/heavily trimmed story) is on Marketplace...

Pulling up the blog to check Nelson's score made for some captivating audio; that was a good prank. Play more pranks on each other, will ya. :-) Also - and I think I'm not alone in saying this here - video them. And bring back the blogcast outtakes.

The wood console was pretty sweet, actually. I'd love to see someone craft one of those; think I saw a working wooden-cased Atari online once. Of course, to have any hope of it matching your decor, you'd have to have it hooked up to some old school monolithic floor model tube TV...

Maybe we'll have to make that next week's question.  Seriously,  I'm big into science/physics.  I have several great books on the nightstand (Fabric of the Cosmos, The World Without Us, and a few marketing books like Meatball Sundae, etc.  I'm an Audible junkie when I'm not listening to podcasts.  

As for South Park, I like it as part of the holy "skeptics trinity" of debunking social fallacies (South Park, Myth Busters, and Penn & Teller's Bulls**t).

OK, to be honest, I thought my non-movie choices would bore people to tears.  I am currently reading two marketing books, a book about Michael Eisner's Disney years, and a Preacher graphic novel (when he finds out how bad his vampire friend really was).

@ Porcaro - I've been reading a lot of "Baby Boo!" (http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Baby-Boo/dp/1592235859/), over and over and over. I'm sure I'll catch up to your fancy advanced level once words invade the vocabulary of my child... :-) Mythbusters I can tolerate, there's just a smugness about Penn I can't... :P

I uh, am currently reading a book on employee recognition ("Make Their Day!", but while it's good and full of neat stuff, I'm not sure it's the kind of thing I'd flat out call 'Enjoyable'.

@ Nelson - Preacher, eh. Heard good things, may have to give those a go. Unfortunately all the comic book games usually tie into movies - Maybe you should do a posting about GNs that would make good games? Queen & Country? 100 Bullets? Scott Pilgrim?

Re: April Fool's Day. You guys were right about this industry and the joke's not really fooling anyone. You know what you should do next year? Make a big announcement for real. It'll have everyone talking if it's real or not but then added buzz the next day when people find out, yes, it is real.

@ Nelson. Is that 'Disney War' you're reading? Good book. I love knowing the behind the scenes of why things are the way they are. It's also funny to see the movers and shakers of big business are just as crazy as the bosses we have at regular jobs.

A great way to trick heavily connected gamers for April fools is to make a huge negative announcement that could possibly be true..

MS raises the price of XBL subscriptions
MS raises the price of MS points
MS abolishes Live pricing bundles and forces everyone to a pay per minute system
MS announces a new $79.99 price point for retail games
MS wipes all Gamer scores to zero to give everyone an even playing field

Watch everyone freak out and then announce it as a prank

Oh and to really pull it off you would have to announce it days before April 1st  and then announce on April Fools that it was all a joke. (more trouble than it is worth)




Of course it would have been cool to have the Xbox 360 do the work for you. Imagine what would have happened if when you booted up your Xbox 360 the original Xbox dash board would come up… or the Atari 2600 dash or a Windows XP/Vista desktop

or the A.I. in the game Portal assumes control of your Xbox 360 and starts playing your arcade games…complete with pop up messages taunting you…




Or my favorite..

You get a pop up message saying you have violated TOS and your console is banned from Live, if you have any questions call the 800 number for Xbox customer service

(which today only would be forwarded to the national weather service 24 hour recording)




After its all over, MS gives everyone 50 free Xbox Live points for being good sports.

A nice gesture which would probably result in additional Xbox Live point sales as users would have to combine the free gift with existing points or newly purchased points to take advantage of the gift. If you want to put restrictions on the free points (must be used within 30 days or something)  no problem.

I thought you guys might be all tricky with the 5x5 for April fools.  I tried it forwards and backwards, even the first set of 5 as the first number/letter of each group of 5 and so on.


Guess I was over thinking it. Oh well, it was fun and exciting. (some real simple mix-up or reversal of the code would be cool in the future, but it might get too close to another code)I was hoping since the podcast came out on my birthday....oh well at least I got a Wii out of it.
