Wow, this guy has one hell of a resume. But one question I have for Early is. Why is it that it took so long for modern gaming services to reach the level Mplayer was at years ago?

So will head the

Games For Windows (GFW), project?
Games For Windows Live  (GFW Live, and only the Live aspect), project?
or Games for Windows Live, some kind of online games project for Windows Live....?

You guys need to sort out your naming...

He's done some cool stuff for casual gaming at MS... I'm hoping we'll see more with Live Arcade, and the whole slew of other Live services for the PC.

itsgreen, the media blast spells it out that he is in charge of the group that does Games for Windows-Live(halo2/Shadowrun) but yes, their naming is nutty.

I would LOVE to see him combine his background with that group and find a way to have the "basic" XBL Arcade system ported to Windows. I would love to be able to play the arcade games on my PC laptop when I am on vacation. Poker on Live while sitting on the beach??? Awesome!!!!

We also need a way to access voicemessages OUTSIDE of the game so that we can hear what is being said. Shadowrun ALWAYS has loud annoying background noise going..so listening to VoiceMessages on Live sucks.

Well good luck & congrats to him, I wonder if has any plans for the plathform, I'd love to hear them..

It's definately good news to see some information on the GFW front, but it would be really nice to hear some announcements about upcoming titles.  So far we've got H2, Shadowrun and then Uno is coming out eventually, but hopefully at E3 next week there will be a listing of future titles to give everyone a sense that GFW is going somewhere and has a future.

j/k. I'm looking forward to what Mr. Early will bring to the table for Games for Windows - LIVE(!!!). As Shamrock said, he'll have his work cut out for him, but I'm sure we'll see some good things come out of this move.

I hope what he said about fixing "lag" and other issues with Contra is true. Not so much because I play Contra (I don't), but because it means there is a tiny glimmer of hope that some of the other long-standing broken games like Assault Heroes might get fixed at long last.

Mplayer? Wow, that brings back memories. Had that in the prehistoric internet era to play games online. It was like Xbox Live before technology was ready for it. Even had the company's Xband modem for the Sega Genesis so we could play local games over phone lines.
