Wow, a new version of the Xbox 360?  What a huge surprise, it's not like people have been talking about this for 3 weeks or anything.  It's not like I didn't know years ago that a third sku was going to be released (yeah, someone wouldn't shut up).  Great job on the huge surprise.  To be serious though this is awesome, I'd probably be more excited if I didn't just spend $140 on my repair.  Still, I'll be calling EB Games today to see about preordering it.

Thanks for screwing over the people who purchased their system over the holidays.  Even with the rumors out, you guys denied them, just so you could cash in on the holidays sales.  I know I certainly would have held out until the elite was released before making my purchase.

To top it off, in January someone from M$, here on these blogs, stated that if there was enough demand for HDMI, it would be supported, followed up with vague statements designed to lead the readers to assume that there would be an HDMI cable released for current consoles.

Of course none of it was true, and instead M$ felt the need to pound any early adopters (even though I wouldn't consider a December 2006 an early adopter) in the ass.

You want to make it right?  Give us a buy-back option!!

When I bought it, the guy must have known there was a new model coming out but he still sold to me!!!

Only problem is, game consoles operate on a 5 year cycle, cars work on a 1 year cycle.  You don't make changes to your system without offering the changes as add-ons for your existing customers.

If game consoles were changed and updated once a year, I'd have had no problem with this, because it would have been an expected change.

Even when Sony released the slim PS2 and incorporated the modem and ethernet on board, the original PS2 owners could still by the modem / ethernet add-on.  I can't do this with my 360 and HDMI.

So yes, they are a bunch of jerks.  I'm glad you agree.

Cars don't work on a one year cycle.  Car manufacturers typically operate on a 4-5 year cycle, unless you are BMW and go longer or Porsche (still building the same car).  Each year, there may be features added to a car and a mid-production run makeover.  So, do you think Acura offered to upgrade my seats in my TSX to memory seats?  Or offered integrated fog lights and new 9 spoke alloy wheels?  They sure did...if I purchased a new car.

BTW, did you think about the people screwed over by the PS2 hard drive and the new slim PS2?  Guess what, you couldn't use your PS2 HDD with the new slim PS2.  Oops.

i like surly's comment, but the car comparison from above isn't exactly fair  because we all know there is going to be a newer and better version of cars coming out.

i didn't know there would be a better xbox 360 when i bought mine at launch (and have replaced it thrice). i would like a buy-back option, or at least a lower price for the 120 gig HDD.

i'd also like to know why every time i play Gears of War i can hear my disc drive shut down and tell me my pristine disc to too dirty to read.

MS wasn't jerks for releasing an HDMI equipped 360... it was implying that older models could get HDMI as an add on when its not possible that made them jerks.  I bought my 360 knowing it doesn't have HDMI.

I don't mind the elite,it looks awesome,a bit pricy but,hey-notbody force youy to get one,premium is fione for me,however I might get that new HDD.

Ofc EU doesn't need one yet snce we doesnt have the american video market service with all kind of movies etc.

For me the PS3 beat the 360's price, but that's because I wanted wireless and the charge kit.

Can we please have a browser for the 360 so I can watch youtube vidoes on the big TV?

This is stupid. Plain and simple.

I might think of about it if it had some built-in WiFi, but of course, M$ is in the business of overpricing, so if they did that, they wouldn't get to cram us with a $100 wireless adapter.

And considering I paid $75 for the 250GB hard drive in my computer, I'm not even about to pay $180 for a 120GB hard drive.

I'm not happy with this.

So I take it no one has ever purchased a $300 ipod that upgrades every MONTH, huh?

Bottom line is, even though Microsoft is really great to their fans and users, they are still a BUSINESS that has to make certain strategic decisions to remain competitive and ahead of the game. Period. They are not your mommy and daddy that's going to bottle-feed you with buy-backs and rebates, they are a COMPANY that must meet objectives and thrive in the insanlely competitive video game market. What a crazy idea!!

I understand that a lot of you early adopters are pissed, but the fact that some of you are demanding buy-backs is ridiculous. Microsoft is not here to baby you through the product life cycle. They are here to provide a quality product, great games, and an awesome gaming experience. With that in mind, they are to align those objectives with the interest of the company; whether that is gaining market share, increasing profits, or gaining key strategic alliances. If that means that they must broaden their product selection, then so be it.

No, I have not purchased an Ipod, and one of the reasons is that they upgrade and release newer versions as often as they do.  BUT...if I were to purchase one, I would do so knowing that there will be an improved model coming in a short amount of time.

The difference is, I've been buying gaming consoles for over 20 years, and never in that time have I bought a system, and had the company release a newer version with updated features that I couldn't add to my existing console.  The release of the Elite 360 changes all of the rules, and contradicts the history behind gaming consoles.

What really irritates me though, was the disinformation put out by M$ surrounding the 360's ability for 1080p output, and the ability to add HDMI in the future.  Back in January (around the time of the CES) M$ representatives stated that they would release an HDMI upgrade if demand from consumers was strong enough.  They made claims that the 360 is a modular system that would allow them the flexibility to do this.  So, what happens?  They instead release an entirely new system without regard to people who purchased their product based on this disinformation.

Using your Ipod example, how would you feel if you purchased an Ipod, and Apple told you that if enough people want it they'll release an upgrade to allow video's to be played on your Ipod.  Then, when the time comes around, they instead release a new Ipod and tell you if you want to watch videos you have to purchase the new Ipod, even though we told you we'd upgrade your existing Ipod to play videos?  Sound fair to you?

If they released an HDMI adapter for the existing 360's as they said they would, I wouldn't have any problems.  But since the only way I can get HDMI is by purchasing a new 360, I'd like to have some kind of a buy back program.  I'll pay extra, but because of the disinformation, I don't think I should have to purchase an entirely new system at full price.

OK, so has anything been confirmed for existing owners replacing their systems and being able to transfer their data?

Please fill us in when you can guarantee we'll be able to replace our consoles with the new unit while being able to transfer all data/account info over (sounds like the transfer cable/software only comes with the stand alone 120 drive).
