It's true that you wouldn't want to go back, but it's cool to give perspective to the gamers of today about how far we've come over 20+ years.  A game is a game and while they're becoming more and more like movies visually, it's still about the challenge.

Or....the very first game I got on the PC (when it came out)...ADVENTURE!    ...versus OBLIVION maybe?

Or...hehe... let's go back to the late 70's...does anyone remember STAR TREK (the ascii version?)  Played it on one of IBM's first portables.

The best part of all of those NES games wasn't the graphics.  It was the gameplay, something screenshots can't show.

Most of those old games may look worse, but are more fun to play than 90% of games released today.  

I can't wait till graphics get so good that they don't matter anymore and developers will remember that we want to have fun PLAYING the game, not just watching them.

Oh man, rad racer was my game.  I really think we're starting to see some great things from the 360, graphics on the newer games are amazing.  I saw some screenshots of Raw vs Smackdown for the PS3, the graphics looked great, but they looked just as good as FNR3.  Anyone else played fight night on a "last gen" console?  It's sad...

You know it ceratinly is such as big leap in graphics in gaming.

I have a PS1 and me and my brother were playing on it a lot.  But my parents never really bothered to sit with us and watch us play... but now with the XBOX 360 they actually do!  It's pretty cool!  In fact there was this one time I was playing PGR3 and my dad walked by and the asked me "What are you watching?"...  

I suppose right now with the amazing leap in graphics, non-gamers are actually finding something interesting in gaming.  Back then gaming was pretty niche...it may look nice to us gamers but to a casual person it was such a big mess.  But now...whoa...

I made a comparison thread on Ridge Racer as well...maybe I should post that up in my blog.
